The Edgecombe Genco Power Plant is a coal fired cogeneration plant that began commercial operations in 1990. Edgecombe is a two unit steam turbine design with 115 mw capacity. The plant was built by Cogentrix to serve a PURPA contract that provided favorable power tariffs as well as the sale of steam to the neighboring Pfizer plant. The plant was sold to EIF/ Ares in 2015 who ran the plant until the PPA ended. By 2017 the fund was at end of life and Ares made plans to shut down the plant by the end of the steam contract in 2019. GENOVER acquired the plant and the property and operated the plant until the termination of the steam contract.
