Hiram Clark, Texas

Background

Hiram Clark (HOC) was a power plant built by Houston Power and Light (HL&P) in the early 1940s. The plant consisted of four natural gas boiler units totaling 250 MW of steam generation. The unit also had a backup fuel system consisting of above ground tanks for storage and delivery of #6 Fuel Oil in the event natural gas was not available for generation. The plant was shut down in 1980 and sat dormant for many years.

Project Execution

GENOVER was contracted by the new owner BioFuels Power to remediate all hazardous materials, demolition, and removal of the power plant from the site. GENOVER completed all technical work and engineering in coordination with the Centerpoint substation next door. Scope included remediation of all friable and non-friable asbestos, lubricants, transformer oil and transformers and any other contaminants. The project was completed using OSHA Hazmat rules.
